Kuzmackisoneof7,000peopleacrossCanada who is taking part in the Rick Hansen 25th AnniversaryRelay which is currently passingthroughManitoba. To prepare for her leg of the relay, which wasonly250metres,Kuzmackwasinspired to"getinshape"andshelost25pounds. "I'vekeptitoffforayear," shesays."Ihadno ideahowfarI'dhavetorunsoIjustdecided togoforitandprepareforwhateverI'dhave todo." The 51-year-old educational assistant at Springfield Middle School who works with special needs students applied over a year agotobeamedal-bearer. "I'msoexcited,"shesaidjustdaysbefore she participated in the relay. "I've always beeninspiredby Rick Hansenandworking withspecialneedskidshasalwaysmademe appreciate his message. I saw him 25 years agowhenhedidhisoriginalManInMotion tour." The Rick Hansen 25th AnniversaryRelay willtravelthroughmorethan600communitiesasitmakesitsnine-month,12,000-kilometrejourneyacrossCanadabeforeconcludinginVancouveronMay22,2012. "Oh,it'sfantastic," saidB.J.'shusband,Larry Kuzmack, just minutesbeforeshereceived themedal."Andthatistheneatthing-7,000 differencemakers." Twenty-five years ago Hansen had a dream - to make the world more accessibleandinclusiveandtofindacureforspinal cordinjury.For26monthsheandhisteam wheeledover40,000kilometresthrough34 countries,raisingawarenessofthepotential ofpeoplewithdisabilities. AccordingtoBrynIsaac,whoisresponsibleforrelayphotographyandthewebsite,he saystheresponseinManitobahasbeenequal ifnotgreaterthantheprevioussixprovinces thattherelayhasbeenthrough.
