Minister ?guarantees? provincial support

Continued from front Mazur said the chamber and business community have come on board and there is concensus on the latest plan. Mazur said Monday?s wine and cheese party, held specifi cally to present he plan to Ashton, is just the beginning of a long process. ?When it?s completed we know our community will be very proud,? azur said. He then officially turned the plans for reconstruction of Park Avenue ver to Ashton and asked the province to consider funding it in its fiveyear capital plan. Ashton said he?s well aware of Beausejour?s desire to upgrade Park Avenue. He said it was on his radar screen back in 2000-2001 when he was Highways minister. He said the paving of Park Avenue was done initially in 1960, and it?s time for an upgrade. ?If you consider (that was) 50 years ago, and this is 2010, this is about looking ahead to the next 50 years,? Ashton said. He praised council, the steering committee and the citizens of Beausejour for coming together to move the project forward. ?Th is has gone far beyond the issue of angle parking,? Ashton said. ?I have to applaud you, this has evolved...it?s a forward thinking vision for this community.? Ashton off ered promising words, but they?re far from a guarantee of a dollar amount in writing. At Tuesday?s council meeting, Mazur said now that the project has been handed to Ashton, all council can do is wait to see if the minister slots it into his funding list. Th e town has infrastructure upgrades to do before reconstruction can occur, and, nothing can be done prior to the town?s 2012 centennial celebrations. ?It?s going to be up to future councils to follow through on this,? Mazur said. Beausejour 2010-03-04 Complaint received of three male youth smearing pizza on the window of a local business along Park Avenue in Beausejour.
